How To Use Ledger Nano S and X To Secure Your Litecoin (LTC) Offline
Litecoin is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency based on the Bitcoin protocol. However, several differences set it apart including the hashing algorithm used, hard cap, block transaction times, etc. LTC was launched on October 13th, 2011, and since then has been seen as the “silver” to Bitcoin’s “gold.”
LTC can be stored like most cryptocurrencies either on an exchange or in a cold or hot storage wallet. As with any other cryptocurrency, LTC can be stored offline safely and securely. The Ledger Nano X and S are hardware wallets that can be used to achieve just that.
This is a quick guide on how to store LTC using the Ledger Nano X. Note, the exact same steps apply when using the Ledger Nano S.
Before you begin: You will need to have Ledger Nano X/S hardware wallet, and Ledger Live app installed on your computer or mobile device.
Before you begin: Make sure your Ledger Live application is up to date:
- Download Windows 10 Ledger Live update
- Download MAC OS Ledger Live update
- Download Android Ledger Live update
Steps On How To Secure Your LTC With the Ledger Nano X/S
(1) Open up Ledger Live and connect your Ledger Nano X to your computer. This can be done either by Bluetooth or a USB cable.
(2) Navigate to the ‘Manager’ area of Ledger Live, choose a PIN code, and write down your recovery phrase. Follow instructions on the Ledger device and press confirm, then confirm the recovery phrase.
(3) Access Ledger’s App catalog, using the search bar type ‘LTC’ then press ‘Install’. The installation process may take several seconds. Once installed, click on ‘Add account’ and then hit ‘Continue’.
(4) On the device open the LTC app. You may need to enter the PIN code. Once this is confirmed the device screen will display ‘Application is ready’ and synchronization begins. This may take up to several seconds.
(5) Then press ‘Add account’. This will add the LTC app to your device. To confirm this, navigate to the ‘Accounts’ section on the Ledger Live. There you can see that the device has been synchronized successfully and that your LTC app has been added to your accounts.
And you’re done, you now have LTC successfully installed on the Ledger Nano X/S. You can now go to the ‘Account’ section to add accounts and start using your funds.
